KEPT ON WORKING
PAINTER ON BURNING HOUSE A house at 2 Sussex Street was for a short time yesterday afternoon subjected to simultaneous improvement and depreciation. While a. painter was making a very efficient job of painting the front of the house, a fireman from the Central Fire Station, working with commendable energy and equal efficiency, was hacking off large portions of the weatherboarding at the back of the building to get at the seat of a fire. The painter, unperturbed by the signs of unusual activityaround him, went on with his painting, perhaps comforted by the fact that the part of the house being attended to by the brigade had not been painted. The house, a two-storey wooden dwelling, was occupied by Mrs. R. Bell. Two machines from the Central Station attended and soon had the fire under control. The damage was not serious, being confined to the rear of the building.
