PARTY & LOCAL ELECTIONS

(To the Editor.) • Sir,—ln regard to party politics and local elections, could I, as- an independent candidate for the council, draw attention to a few facts relevant to the present situation. Firstly, the Citizens' Committee got rid of previous Labour councillors by means of a full ticket system. Secondly, this ticket system has brought about its counter in a full Labour ticket bemg nominated today. Thirdly, any committee that adopts this ticket system, with candidates from . a section of the people, must bear the stigma of party politics and such system should be condemned, as it does not give the electors an opportunity of selecting the most competent men, who .would be available and valuable to the city as practicable men in their different walks of life. I suggest that the public generally should advocate men of individual capability in preference to those with - a ticket tag. Municipal Government is a community affair, and as such is closer to the individual than national'politics.—I am, etc., J. T. PARRY.

[This correspondent is not correct in describing the full Labour ticket as a counter to the Citizens full ticket of last election. Labour had run full tickets before.]
