NOMINATIONS CLOSED GREATLY ENLARGED ROLL Nominations of candidates for cttjr elections closed at noon today, and the elections Will be held in a fortnight's, time, Saturday, May 27. ;Hutt Valley local body nominations are to close on Monday. . ■ The formal advertisements of city nominations, loan "poll proposals, and polling places appear in this issue over the name of the Returning Officer, Mr. J. Norrie. For the Mayoralty.there are two nominations, those of Mr. Appleton and Mr. Roberts; for the City Council's 15 seats there are 34 candi- , dates; for the Hospital Board, of IS members, 28 candidates; and for .the Harbour Board, on which there are fouj seats for city members, eight candidates. , - The roll of electors this year is much larger than in 1941, for there are upon it 86,344 names, as compared with 58,384. There are to be considerably more polling places, for whereas there were in 1941 .75 polling places,. in which were a total of 112 booths, there will be 182 voting centres, with 260 booths. Voting will close at 6 p.ih.

O.C. PALMERSTON N.) This Day. For nine seats for the Palmerston North City Council there are 29 nominations, including a full Labour ticket. There are five nominations for two seats on the Wellington Harbour Board. Mr. A. E. Mansford has been nominated unopposed lor' the Mayoralty.
