31 SOLDIERS CASUALTIES MELBOURNE, May 12. Four soldiers were killed and 27 injured when.a goods train crashed into a stationary troop train at Puttapa, ! South Australia, just after midnight yesterday. A special train was rushed to Puttapa, while doctors, nurses, and medical equipment were sent by road. The troop train, carrying 300 soldiers, was bound for a northern destination. It had been uncoupled to water the engine when the goods train crashed1 into it, telescoping cars and wrecking loaded trucks. Some soldiers were pinned beneath the wreckage, but. those who escaped did splendid work rescuing and alleviating the sufferings of the injured. Much impromptu first-aid work was necessary, as the special medical train did not arrive till about eight hours after the !crash.
