EDUCATION MATTERS
AUGUST CONFERENCE The Minister of Education (Mr. Mason) announced today that Mr. W. H. Cocker, M.A., LL.B., president of Auckland University College, has agreed to act as chairman of the education conference that is to meet in Christchurch in August. The Minister said that he felt the appointment of an independent chairman would convince the members of the conference that the Government wished them to discuss the problems of education quite freely and impartially! Mr. Cocker was well suited to the important task assigned to him. Mr. Mason expressed pleasure at the response being made to his invitation to organisations and individuals to submit schemes and reports bearing on reconstruction in education. A great deal of work was being done on such reports up and down New Zealand, and he was hopeful of a successful and fruitful conference.
