HERE AND THERE Expected Call.

At the recent conference of Lady Galway Guild delegates held in Wellington, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayoress of Wellington, stated that in the near future there would be a call for help from the occupied countries of Europe, and the guilds needed to be prepared for this, as well as any emergency at home. Up till last September cases sent to the United Kingdom, Russia, Malta, and the Polish people during the year totalled 216, and a number of cases were ready for the next shipment. Wadestown W.N.R. At the council meeting of the Wadestown branch of the Women's National Reserve the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs. A. R. Otway; vice-presi-dents, Mrs. F. W. Grainger and Miss Banks; lion, treasurer, Mrs. H. D. Thomson; hon. secretary, Mrs. R. J. Booth; committee, Mesdames W. B. McKenzie, J. R. Smith, H. A. Peebles, J. S. Sleeman, and Miss Lomas. The meeting was held at the residence of Mrs. R. J. Booth, and afterwards an entertaining programme was presented, including songs by Mrs. L. J. Cronin, who was accompanied by Mrs. I. W. Michelson, elocution by Miss Doolan, solos by Mrs. Michelson, and the reading of a letter by Mrs. Otway from her niece, who is a nursing sister at present in Italy. The committee provided afternoon tea and the proceeds of the function were donated towards the fund for Christinas cheer for the women patients at Porirua Hospital and to the Residential Nursery.
