INJURED ON MT. EGMONT

Two girls were injured when they slipped on ice while climbing on Mount Egmont, reports a correspondent. They were sisters. Misses Winifred and Ruth Bent, of New Plymouth, both of whom were admitted to the New Plymouth Hospital for observation. The girls were descending from the summit of the mountain with a member of the Taranaki Alpine Club when, after glissading for about 200 feet, at an altitude of about 7000 feet, their ice axes failed to hold and they struck rocks. Miss Winifred Bent, who was not as badly injured as her sister, returned to the Tahurangi hut for assistance. Several members of the Alpine Club climbed to the scene of the accident, and brought the other injured girl down to the hut, later taking both sisters to the North Esmont mountain hostel.
