PRODUCTION HEAD

WORK COMPLETED

VALUED SERVICE GIVEN

In deference to the expressed wishes of Mr. G. H. Jackson, War Cabinet has agreed to release ■ him from his responsibilities as Director of Production, an appointment he has held in an honorary capacity since April, 1942. The Minister of Supply and Munitions (Mr. Sullivan), who made this announcement yesterday, said that the resignation, which will take effect as from January 15 next, marked the completion of the expansion stage of war production in the Dominion. "Though the planned programme for the coming year will give tis production figures far in excess of those of previous years, the expansion, with the necessary planning organisation and initial problems, has been successfully achieved," said Mr. Sullivan. "When I originally approached Mr. Jackson to assist the Government m the capacity of Director of Production he readily agreed to my request, and his company concurred and made available his full-time services without cost to the Government, on the grounds of national emergency. "During the past 20 months Mr. Jackson has applied himself without reservation to the responsibilities entrusted to him and to the problems I arising therefrom, and F am sure that all who know of his work will agree thai definite results have been obtained, particularly as , regards the production, of war supplies. GOVERNMENT'S THANKS. "Mr. Jackson leaves behind him a strengthened organisation in the hands of those controllers who were under his immediate direction, and I 'am pleased that his drive and initiative will still be available to myself and my Department, as he will continue to serve as a member of the New Zealand Supply Council. "Mr. Jackson has indicated that he considers the time has come when he should relinquish his appointment to! return to his company, and I have been requested, on behalf of' the Gov- j ernment, to express thanks and appreciation to Mr. Jackson for his most valuable services, which have.been a real contribution to the war effort of the Dominion, and to the directors of the Ford Motor Company of New Zealand, Limited, for their generosity in making his services available.
