MAORIS ON FURLOUGH

SHOULD BE KEPT HERE

(From "The Post's" Special Reporter.) RUATORIA, This Day. Reference to the question of the return of members of.the Maori Battalion at present in the Dominion on furlough was made by Sir Apirana Ngata on the marae when welcoming the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) and other guests here today for the V.C. investiture. He said the question of the return of these men should not be a matter of their volunteering to go back or remaining behind. They should be made to stay here. There were plenty of men to take their places. It was time others saw a bit of the war. Those in the present furlough party should remain with the exception of certain key personnel. That was the decision of the East Coast Maoris in their meeting-houses.
