ARRESTS AT AUCKLAND

A high-speed chase through Upper Hutt which caused excitement in the district on Monday afternoon; had its sequel in- Auckland last night, when two men were arrested and charged with offences committed in that city. A Transport Department traffic inspector,* saw a car exceeding the 30 miles an hour limit several miles south of Upper Hutt, but he had also been seen, and the driver of the car increased speed. The inspector gave chase, and the cars went through Upper Hutt at more than 75 miles an hour. The inspector's siren was ignored, and he stopped to telephone ahead. The other car. however, doubled back unexpectedly, and the men paused only to steal the inspector's ignition key before continuing south. The car was later found abandoned. "
