PERMANENT HEADQUARTERS p.A. CHRIST.CHURCH, This Day. The intention of the Church Army to purchase permanent headquarters ia Auckland, casting £4000, was brought to the notice of the Christchurch Diocesan Synod last night by Captain ia. R. Banyard, who also .stated .that an additional £ 2000 was required for renovation ,and equipment. About .£I2OO was'in hand, he added, for those objects. Captain B.any ard thanked Archbishop West-Watson for-his interest in .the Church Army's work since its inception in New Zealand, and acknowledged the help generally that it "had received from the Anglican Church. At the joutbre.ak of -war, he said, there were five trained workers fr,om 'England in .the Dominion and An addition eighteen New Zealanders were , engaged in the work.- It was much to New Zealand's credit, Captain Banyard said, that since the war began no fewer than 67 New Zealand laymen had been placed ,at work within the Doniinion, in the Middle East, and in the Pacific area,. As a result many servieemea had been helped by their efforts.
