"A WORTHY EXAMPLE"

Flight Lieutenant Walter Young McGregor, R.N.Z.A.F., of Auckland, who was recently reported missing, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his success in air operations in the Middle East, states advice received by the Air Department, Wellington. In civil life, Flight Lieutenant McGregor was employed by the Fletcher Construction Company.

The citation states: "In air operations in the Middle East, Flight Lieutenant McGregor obtained notable success. On one occasion he/attacked a medium-sized ship wtih cannon fire, causing a cargo of drums of petrol to catch fire. Again, in July of this year, he successfully bombed a vessel of similar tonnage and accounted for its destruction. In other sorties Flight Lieutenant McGregor destroyed a Junkers 52, and shared in the destruction of another enemy aircraft. In addition to these successes, he has executed destructive attacks on road and rail transport. His great skill and keenness and his sound judgment "have set a worthy example." Flight Lieutenant McGregor was born at Dunedin in 1916. . His mother is Mrs. J. W. McGregor, 56 Tautari Street, Orakei, Auckland.

SUBSTANTIAL BEQUESTS P.A. . DUNEDIN, September 21. The estate of the late Mr. William Evans has been sworn at £ 120,000, and it is estimated that under many generous bequests the Otago University will benefit to the extent of £70,000.- The whole of the residue is bequeathed to it for investment, the income to be applied for the promotion of education. Further sums of £500 each are bequeathed to the Moray Place Congregational Church Otago Hospital Board, Otago-Southland Division of the Cancer Campaign Society, and the St. John : Ambulance Centre, with smaller bequests to other public bodies.
