SERVICE VOTING IN PACIFIC
Official War Correspondent, N.Z.E.F. NEW CALEDONIA, Sept. 15. Tremendous interest in the General Election in New Zealand is being shown by New Zealand service personnel in the Pacific war zone, and voting is now in progress, both in the static booths and in the mobile booth which travels to isolated detachments. Arrangements have also been made to record the votes of New Zealanders serving with naval and Mercantile Marine- units. Although nominations did not close until noon on September 9 there was commendable promptitude in distributing the manifestos of the various political parties and the groups of Independents. Printed matter for the assistance of service voters left Wellington by aeroplane for a northern airport on September 11 and was quickly distributed by air to all parts of the Pacific where New Zealanders are serving. Distribution was con^pleted on-September 15.
