MELBOURNE, September 15. , In four years the A.I.F. won more than: 2000 decorations in the Middle • East,, andr the A.I.F. and militia in ; the Pacific together won more than 400 • awards. The total awards include nine * Victoria Crosses. These figures were ' released by the-Minister of the Army, Mr. F. M. Forde, to mark the fourth • anniversary of the formation of the . Second A.I.F. "Looking at the records of the . ; Second A.1.F., one is amazed that so much could have been accomplished .in four years," said Mr. Forde. "The Government and people of Australia deeply appreciate the heroism and achievements of these Australians, whose reputation as tough, gallant fighters is universally acclaimed. "I consider the occasion appropriate also to pay tributes to the valour of our militia troops who, in many areas . of New Guinea, fought gallantly."
