SICILIAN STRUGGLE
TREMENDOUS ONSLAUGHT Rec. 2 p.m. LONDON, August 3. The Allies have repelled many counter-attacks at all points in Sicily, declared Cairo radio. The Eighth Army's onslaught south of Catania is tremendous.
A senior British commander told Reuters correspondent • with the Eighth' Army that the fighting for the mountain towns of Regalbuto and Centuripe was the fiercest he had ever known. "The German casualties were terrific" he said. "The dead were lying in piles, while those still fighting were very weary. Once again it is clear that in the matter of stamina the British and Canadians are emerging the winners. The defenders have had all the advantages of ground and supplies." •
