NEW ROUTE HOME

BOMBERS RAIDING ITALY

LONDON, July 13. The wide Atlantic detour by which the raiders of Turin are believed to have returned to Britain provided a third route whereby the Axis fighters have been confused, says Reuters aviation writer. Sometimes the bombers fly on to* African bases, at others they return by various routes over France, Thus Axis fighters waiting- to engage bombers returning homewards are unable to anticipate their route accurately. Today's Italian communique says that considerable damage was done in Turin, arid that 101 persons were killed and 203 injured. A Berne message reports that early yesterday two British bombers crashed on the sides of Swiss mountains. The population of Sion saw the first bomber, apparently -in* trouble, circle low and drop its bombs above Mayens de Sion. The plane then crashed into the mountainside. The bodies of seven members of the crew were found. ■: The second bomber crashed on the j side of Mount Gramont at an altitude j of 27,000 feet. The bodies of five of the crew were found.
