WINS FLAG NO. 2
i The Wellington postal district wins Liberty Flag No. 2 for being' the second district in New Zealand to achieve its target in the Third Liberty Loan campaign, which will close tomorrow. The | target was £4,381,000, and when business closed yesterday Wellington had I £20,000 in excess of it. Nelson, with 1107 per cent, of its quota, won the Liberty Flag No. 1. [ The Dominion total yesterday was brought to £31,919,984, the day's contribution being £1,779,824. The balance required in the remaining one and a half days is £3,080,016. A Press Association message from Auckland states that the metropolitan area there reached its £5,000,000 quota on Wednesday, and exceeded it by £133,947. The following table shows the I amounts contributed to yesterday by the 18 postal districts, the percentage of the particular district objective attained, and the amounts still required:— PerceutI liaised, age. '.'We have never been last yet, and we won't be last this time," declared the president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union (Mr. W. W. Mulholland) in an appeal directed to the producers. He reminded them of the exploits of our fighting men and -of the
country's duty to keep them well supplied with equipment to finish the job they had so well begun. "The keeping open of our sea routes," he said, "has meant directly to you millions and millions of pounds. It has saved you from bankruptcy, and whatever you can spare from your farming operations is a.small thing compared with what our boys have done for you."
The proposal of the staff of the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College to invest the net proceeds of this year's college concert in the -war loan has been unanimously endorsed by the Board of Managers.
Subscriptions notified yesterday were as follows:—Self-Help employees' scheme, Dominion total £6545. including a Wellington district total of £2627, and Wellington metropolitan total £1503; Todd Motor Industries' employees' effort, further progress report, £1770 from 97 employees; Dalgety and Co., Ltd., among those not previously acknowledged. £20,000; Commercial Union Group, £12,500; Mr. H.
