ITALIANS WORRIED
INVASION PROSPECT
LONDON, July 5. The air war in the Mediterranean is being intensified every day, according to statements from both sides, and the Italians are becoming more worried regarding an invasion. It is commented that we are hammering Sciacca and *Comiso because they are Italy's front-line aerodromes, and the Axis air forces must move back if we are able to make the Sicilian fields untenable.
The National Broadcasting Corporation's correspondent in Algiers says that the whole of the Mediterranean area will flare up when the word is given and opposing armies clash. "Mr. Churchill has declared that the fighting will begin 'before the leaves of autumn fall,' and our armies in North Africa are hoping for an early fall, ths correspondent says. Rome radio stated that there are increased numbers of Allied invasion barges in all the Mediterranean ports from Gibraltar to Cyprus. It added that Italian reconnaissance planes are watching the moves, while Axis bombers are constantly attacking the barges. Vichy radio reported that the Italians are restricting visits to coastal areas because of the danger of air raids and also because of the evacuation measures which are in progress.
