"GOOD WORK"
N.Z. BOMBER'S FEAT
JAP SUBMARINE SUNK A large Japanese submarine was sunk recently by a New Zealand Air Force Hudson bomber on reconnais- | sance from Guadalcanal. I This stJrring success, said the Prime I Minister (Mr. Fraser) yesterday, would i gratify everyone by the encouragement it would give to our flyers m, thai area. This was not the first instance of our airmen attacking an enemy submarine. There had been good reason to suppose that one other air attack had also been successful; but there was no doubt about this one. "The work of the New Zealand bomber reconnaissance squadrons is hazardous, arduous, and as a rule unspectacular," said Mr. Fraser. "It is seldom rewarded by positive results, but every now and then in the course of their extended patrols over vast spaces of sea our crews have sighted enemy merchant ships and warships and have had *to defend themselves against attendant enemy fighters." Mr. Fraser said he had been informed that on several occasions the reports of our reconnaissance crews had oeen of the utmost value to the South Pacific Command, and more than one successful attack had been launched as a result of the information signalled back from our Hudsons. He was very glad to know also that our Hudsons had successfully beaten off enemy fighters without loss to themselves. "This good news demonstrates what is already known to our Allies in the inlands," concluded Mr. Fraser, "that our squadrons know their work. I have had reports from the most responsible quarters that the reputation 'A our squadrons stands very high."
