Mr. Lloy.d Powell, a, distinguished English pianist and exajniner for the Royal Colleges of Music, has arrived in Sydney from India, where he has been -examining' for the past few months: Mr. Powell is expected to arrive in New Zealand as soon as arrangements for his transport can be made. Mr. Powell,. who is a pupil of the great Busoni, was in New Zealand in; 1936 and 1941. : Captain ■R. Herbert, Dunedin, has been, appointed commissioner for the New-Zealand Patriotic Fund Board at Tonga. Captain. Herbert,1 who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Herbert, Waikouaiti, was"b..»rn in Christchurch arid was educated in Dunedih. He was "employed by an engineering firm till his appointment as secretary of the Otago Clerical Workers' Union: He was an Otago representative at Rugby football and was closely associated with the activities of ■- the V.M.C.A. for 17 yearis. : He is a former president, of-the Otago ?Labqur Representation Committee, and resigned, from the, presidency of : the j-Otag'o Trades ! Council to enter the .Army. Before joining the Army he was also a member of the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council. !
