FUEL CONSUMPTION IN RAID
LONDON, July 2. The consumption of high-octane petrol for a single present-day bombing raid oh Germany had to be reckoned in millions of gallons, said the chairman of the Oil Control Board, Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd, in a speech. It was often enough to take a car 3000 times round the world, and would cost about £200,000. One Lancaster bomber flying to the Ruhr and back consumed about 2000 gallons of spirit.
