MARKETING OF HONEY
The annual conference of the National Beekeepers' Association yesterday decided to set up a committee to inquire into costs and, to suggest to the Government, if the evidence were favourable, an alternative scheme designed to cut down the cost of marketing and distributing of honey , for the benefit of beekeepers. The association also accepted the principle of the 70 per cent, control by the Government, on an assurance given by the Minister of Marketing (Mr. Barclay) to a deputation that there would be no increased commandeer. The president (Mr. E. A. Field) told the conference that producers would continue to" have the right to market up to 30 per cent, of their crop. An amendment that as the Government was "determined to impose control against the wishes of some producers, it should take the responsibility of seeing that its action does not curtail production," was lost by 27 votes to 26.
