FIGHTERS V. FIGHTERS

EACH SIDE LOSES FOUR

LONDON, July 1

R.A.F. fighters which flew across the Channel today destroyed four enemy fighters. Four of our planes are missing.

Typhoon fighter-bombers attacked an enemy convoy off the Dutch coast, damaging three medium-sized merchant ships. v June was the biggest month yet for United States bombers operating from this country. They dropped between 2000 and 3000 tons of bombs on targets in Germany and occupied territory, including a great weight on the rubber factory at Hals. Two hundred and seventy-one German fighters were shot down, 80 probably destroyed, and 170 damaged. This cost the Americans 82 bombers —10 more than during May, but more aircraft were sent over.
