MR. NASH'S VIEWPOINT
The value of divorcing acquisitiveness from human endeavour was affirmed by the Minister of Finance (Mr. Nash), replying to the Budget debate in the House of Representatives last night. He said that the member for Invercargill (Mr. Denham) had suggested that the profit' motive was not a prerequisite for incentive and initiative. With that view he agreed. Mr. t Nash said there were three "tiyes"—incentive, initiative, and acquisitiveness, and he was certain that there was more initiative when the acquisitive aspect was not present. What acquisitiveness had the late Sergeant Pilot Ward, V.C., when he climbed out on the wii g of the plane to stop a fire when the plane was crossing ■ the North Sea?
