DEATH BY SUFFOCATION

An inquest into the death of Francis Eden, 40, single, 42 Owen Street, was held yesterday afternoon before the Coroner, Mr. W G. L. Meliish.who returned' .a verdict that death was caused by suffocation when Eden was buried in clay at the Amalgamated Brick and Pipe Company's works at Miramar last Saturday afternoon. Eden was seen to be in difficulties in a clay bin, buried to the knees. ■ He caught a rope that was thrown to him, but a fall of clay buried him to the 'shoulders and he" went down , the chute through which clay is fed to the mixer. Evidence was given that the system at the works had been iii operation for 20 years and that r such an accident was completely unexpected.
