AMERICANS RETREAT
SMALL HILLS ABANDONED
LONDON, April 30. The British First Army and the TJnited States Second Corps have been in some tough fighting tor hill positions, and repeated enemy counter-at-tacks have scored some success. The Americans have been forced to leave three small hills in the face of intense mortar and machine-gun fire.
Hitler's decision to throw all the reinforcements he can into Tunisia was described today by Mr. L. C. Amery, Secretary of State for India, as the equivalent of a second front—a second iront advantageous to us and disadvantageous to the enemy, for nowhere else could such losses be inflicted x>n his ships and aircraft, and, when the end came, on his men and equipment.
