EGG MARKETING
DIVERSION OF SUPPLIES
An amendment to the Egg Marketing Emergency Regulations issued last night gives the Minister of Marketing authority to control the sale and purchase of eggs in any part of the Dominion. Previously this authority applied only in special egg marketing areas. If, for example, eggs are required for the armed forces or other purposes in Auckland or Wellington, the extension means that the Minister can require egg-producing districts in any part of the country to forward their quota to meet the demand. Another provision, which is designed to stop black marketing, gives the Minister or any of his representatives in the Internal Marketing Division power to demand that owners of eggs reveal their source of production. The Internal Marketing Division will be empowered to direct egg supplies through channels so that they will reach the armed forces or the general public. A penalty clause is included in the regulations making it an offence for owners of eggs to refuse to supply information regarding sources of production or to give wrong information in that respect. A price order gazetted last night provides for seasonal increases in the prices of eggs in various districts in line with the increases which became effective, area by area, during the corresponding period last year.
