SWEDEN'S NAVICERTS

EFFECTS OF STOPPAGE BY GERMANY STOCKHOLM, March 18. The Swedish decision to allow two Norwegian ships lying at Gothenburg 1 to proceed to Britain is linked up with Germany's stoppage of Sweden's navicert traffic with North and South America. ' Germany withdrew the navicerts a«. the end of January, resulting in 12 Swedish ships being immobilised in Argentine and Brazilian harbours. Sweden in 1942, under the navicert system, imported goods valued at £24,000,000, including rubber, mineral oil, motor-car parts, and coffee, all of which were unobtainable in Europe. Sweden will suffer severely if negotiations with Germany to restore the navicerts fail.
