CHANNEL ISLANDS
OFFER FOR FOOD RELIEF
RENEWED
RUGBY, March 18.
In the course of discussions in the House of Lords on the food situation in the Channel Islands, Lord Portsea renewed his offer to take a ship arid food to the islands.
"The ship is ready and so am I." he said. "I have had nothing whatever from the Government since I made the suggestion, except that they said: 'The Germans would shoot you.' I will take that risk gladly." He added that the Germans would have to be consulted.
In reply, Lord Selborne said: "I can assure the House that the moment it is militarily possible we shall • reoccupy the islands and feed them and bring them all the services that the people of the British Isles enjoy." Lord Portsea said he hoped the Government would again consider his offer to take a ship and food to the islands, and would take steps for negotiations to be opened with the German Government.—B.O.W.
