AIR OPERATIONS
MESSINA BOMBED AGAIN

United States headquarters at Cairo states that American Liberators and heavy bombers again attacked harbour installations at Messina in daylight yesterday. The attacks were carried j out by two formations for several hours. Direct hits were observed on the railway ferry terminal and the north quay railway siding. One enemy aircraft which rose to attack the first formation was seen to be shot down by its own A.A. fire. A formation of enemy fighters attacked the second group, which damaged at least three jof them.I Torpedo aircraft directly hit an enemy destroyer off Pantelalria Island on Saturday night and left it listing. Small enemy ships off Tunisia were attacked with good results. Three of our aircraft are missing.— 8.0. W. (Rec. 9 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 1. Morocco radio says that several Axis bombers attacked Bona (the Algerian port west of Tunis) yesterday; Bombs were dropped and some damage was done. At least two of the raiders were shot down. Two bombers appeared over Bona later, but no bombs were dropped.
