AUCKLAND, Feb. 1

Forty-two members of the United States Army forces serving in-,, the South Pacific were awarded the Purple Heart at a mass parade held at ~a service hospital. All awards were., for wounds received in action against the enemy in the Solomon Islands fighting. The purple and whit" barred ribbon of the medal was pinned on- the men by Colonel Frank V. Schneider, commanding officer of the United States troops in New Zealand. Some of the men received their awards at a parade in the hospital compound. Others received thetn in bed.
