ON GUADALCANAL
U.S. ARMY TAKES OVER
GEN. PATCH IN CHARGE
LONDON, January 21. In 'the Solomons the United States Army has taken over on Guadalcanal Island to help to take some of the strain off the marines. America's Secretary of War, Mr. H. L. Stimson, gave this news today, but an army statement issued later makes it clear that, although the United States Army forces have been increased, there is still a large body of marines remaining on the island.
