VEGETABLES AND FRUIT
(To the Editor,) Sir, —I quite agree with "Disgusted" that it is high time we women got together to do something about this question of food pi-ices. Too long have we been put off with "the war" and "the Army comes first." The welfare of the soldiers is very close to the heart of almost every woman in this country, as the majority of families have given husband, brother, or son, while some have given all three. However, war is only a temporary evil, but civilian life goes on for ever, and the health of the civilian population, women and children, must be maintained. It is the duty of every woman, married or single, to stand solidly behind the woman with a family. The citizens of the future must be strong and unafraid—not beaten at the very beginning by ill health, worry, and under-nourishment. We do not ask that our soldiers go short of a single thing, but we must demand that, more necessities are made available to the public at drastically reduced prices.— I am, etc., WOMEN, AWAKE!
