OBITUARY

MRS. W. J. PATIENCE. An old and respected resident of Berhampore for 54 years, Mrs. W. J. Patience, passed away at her son's residence, 72 Eden Street, Island Bay, on December 28. 'Mrs. Patience was the widow of William John Patience, who predeceased her five years ago. She ! was born in Kaiapoi in 1862, the second \ daughter of the late George and Martha ' Stupples. Her parents arrived at Lyt- ' telton in 1851 by the ship Lady Nugent (the Canterbury Pilgrims). Mrs. Patience was one of the original members of the Berhampore Baptist Church, and there the service was held, the R£v. Forde Carlisle, of Te Awamutu, personal friend of the family, conducting it with the assistance of the Rev. Mr. Sherburd. Mrs. Patience leaves five sons and a daughter—Will, Robert, Henry, Fred, and Charlie, and Adie (Mrs. A. Staub).
