WHISKY—£3 A BOTTLE
A young man who bought four dozen bottles of beer for a club of which he was secretary found that because of the purchase he could also buy a bottle of whisky. He did not drink himself, but bought the whisky for 19s 4d. He intended to keep it for friends at Christmas, but with such a valuable commodity he was beset by a number of men and told that he could get up to £3 for it. Not knowing he was breaking the law, he sold it to two Americans for £3 and as one was holding the bottle up to the light a constable arrived and seized the whisky Tiiis was the explanation given in the Magistrate's Court yesterday by Mr W E. Leicester. The young man. who pleaded guilty to selling liquor without a licence, was fined £2 by Mr. J. L. Stout. S.M.
