ANTI-FASCIST FEELING

SYMPTOMS IN ITALY

NEW YORK, October 3. "Behind -the Fascist screen the Italian nation is united against Mussolini in a common feeling of horror and shame," writes Count Sforza, the distinguished Italian diplomat, in the "New York Times."

"Many symptoms show the general reaction of the Italians against Fascism," he says. "For example, the Prefect of Fiume, in a proclamation, states that many families have left their residences and joined with rebels in terrorising and killing Italian soldiers. The prefect adds that their homes. have been razed and their possessions confiscated, and 20 members :of their families, drawn by lot, have been executed. The prefect warns that if the rebels continue to aid the bandits the reprisals will be continued inexorably. "Furthermore, a proclamation by the ' High Command of the Italian army in .Yugoslavia openly admits that Slo-« venes are revolting against the Nazis and Italians because the Slovenian nation has turned Communist,' and it warns that rebels will be shot on the spot." Count Sforza concludes: "This feeling is becoming a powerful instrument for the liberation of Italy and of Europe.": -
