FIRE DANGER IN BRITAIN
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Octoher 4. Miss Ellen Wilkinson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Home Security, speaking at Coventry today, said that the greatest danger from air bombardments was fire. The R.A.F. raids on Germany had shown that while the bombs were dropped in 30 minutes the fires had lasted 30 hours afterwards.
This menace had to be met by fire guards. There were plenty of volunteer women fire guards, just the same as there were men volunteers before compulsion. These volunteers asked for compulsion so that all would have a fair share in the national duty.— 8.0. W.
