PURPOSE-ACHIEVED
THE OPERATIONS IN ■■■■■■■ MADAGASCAR
(Rec. 12.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 25. With the occupation of the capital of Madagascar and the; main ports, the purpose for which military action was considered necessary has already been virtually achieved. The potential threat to vital Allied sea communications , has been removed. Satisfaction is therefore expressed in London that, with this task accomplished, General Platt has hastened once again to make clear the motives which rendered the operation necessary, and to reaffirm that French sovereignty is not impaired by it. It is also stated in London that such troops as are still under the orders of Vichy have retired to the southern part of the island. —8.0. W.
