RISE IN U.S. WAR PRODUCTION

NEW YORK, September 14. The war production chief. Mr. Donald Nelson, in a broadcast, asserted that American war production.had increased by 350 per cent, since Pearl Harbour, but that the output "is not sufficient to turn the tide of battle in our favour." "That is a good record, but not good enough," he said. "In this game there is no second prize, and we are playing for keeps. "The United States is engaged in a fight to the death against the Axis. There is no place for Americans in Japan's co-prosperity sphere or in Hitler's new order. For us, they mean economic, political, religious, and personal slavery."
