MINERS' BALLOT
RESULT AWAITED
RAILWAY SERVICE CUTS
The result., of the secret ballot held throughout the Waikato coalfields yesterday on the issue. of whether work should be resumed pending a settlement of the present dispute was not available in Wellington this afternoon. An Auckland Press Association message last night stated that a large proportion of the 1280 union members voted at polling places in all the mine settlements. It was understood that all the votes had come to hand except those of a small group >at Mangapehi in the King Country. .'- ■ It was understood in Wellington today that the district executive of Jhe Waikato mine|3 recommended the men to resume work/on Monday. The Minister of Railways (Mr. Semple) stated today that it was not intended to impose the restrictions on railway services on Monday, as originally proposed. "It all depends upon what happens in the meantime," Mr. Semple said. "If the strike continues the restrictions will have to be imposed on Tuesday."
