MARRIAGE IN BATTLE AREA
An Australian Army nurse arid a sergeant who met in Darwin during last February's raid were married this week. in a camouflaged tin hut m the Northern Australian battle area. They are Sergeant J. Rowe, of" Melbourne, and Sister Betty Wallace, of Adelaide. Their marriage was the first under new regulations which permit Australian soldiers and nurses to marry while on active, service. Previously on marriage to a soldier a nurse had to retire from the Army. The marriage was . performed by Padre Grant. The. bride was given away by Area Commandant Captain Levitt. Camp I personnel, unaware of the wedding, \vent about their usual Saturday evening duties. As the padro was conducting the - service, giant bombers roared overhead on their way north. The service, which was attended by a handful of nurses, officers, and n.c.o.s was simple and quick. A reception was held at an Australian General Hospital.
