SOUTHERN VIEWPOINT

NATIONAL HURDLES I

FINAL DAY AT RICCARTON

(By "Binocular.")

Attentiori will be centred in the second and concluding day of the New Zealand Grand National Meeting at Riccartqn, the only racing or trotting fixture in the Dominion tomorrow. Excellent acceptances were re-; ceived and there is a possibility of the Woolston Handicap being run in divisions. ' The chief attraction is the Grand National Hurdles, in which Foxiana, winner of/the big steeples on ; the opening day, will endeavour to follow in"the footsteps of Padishah by taking both big jihnping events, a feat that has been accomplished by that horse only. Eight who contested the National Steeplechase figure in the Lincoln 'Chase, and the field is built up by the inclusion of Recollection, who has been promoted to °. the higher grade, and Anglo-French, who was prevented from racing on the opemng day through an injury he received at the Christchurch Hunt. Of those who figured in flat handicaps on the opening day, the majority have transferred to the Islington Handicap and the August Handicap, the former a mile and a quarter event, and- the other seven furlongs. The racing should be of a high standard. Horses favoured for their engagements are:— Hunt Cup Steeples.—Valantua, Golden Memory, Surcoat. . , Sumner Handicap.—Cheddingtoh, Lowry Bay, Arabian Night. Lincoln Steeples.—Slayer, Clansmaa" Anglo-French. Woolston Handicap.—First division: Warrigal, Tawhainui.
