NEW DEFEAT IN CHINA
LONDON, August 13. Chungking reports a successful Chinese counter-attack just south of the Chekianf-Ki&ngsi railway. The Japanese forces pushing southwards were thrown back, leaving 1500 dead on the field. A Chungking spokesman said that the Japanese garrison defending Linchwan is estimated to be about 20,000 strong. He also spoke of an unexplained concentration of at least 20,000 Japanese troops on vessels lying in Indo-Chinese ports. The American Air Force has raided another Japanese base in China.
