Daily Bombings By R.A.F. Promised
LONDON, July 28.\ The people of Germany were given a grim warning tonight by Air Marshal Sir Arthur Harris, chief of the R.A.F. Bomber Command, that British and American bombers are going to .>/ scourge their land from end to end, He was broadcasting from London in German and a number of other languages.
"Soon we shall be coming: over ev*ery night and every day —rain, blow, or snow—we and the Americans,'' he said. '' You cannot stop it, and you know it. You have no chance."
He tolii the Germans that the raids they had experienced so far would seem very little when British bomber production reached its flood and American production was doubled and re : doubled.
America, he said, had just entered the conflict. As an example of American production, he quoted the output of one American factory which every two hours turned out one four-engined bomber capable of carrying four tons of bombs to any part of Germany.
He recalled the days when the Germans bombed London for 92 nights running, and said they did a lot of damage, and 42,000 British men, women, and children lost their lives. "Now it is our turn," he said. He added that the object was not revenge. We did not forget Warsaw, Belgrade, Rotterdam, London, and Coventry We were bombing Germany city by city so as to make it impossible for the Germans to go on with the war. That was the only way.
"It is up to you to end the war and the bombing," said Air Marshal Harris. "You can overthrow the Nazis and make peace. It is not true that we plan a peace of revenge, but we shall certainly make it impossible for any German Government to start a war again."
