REPLACING THE SYDNEY

(Rec. 12.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, April 16 The Prime Minister (Mr. Curtin) announced that satisfactory arrangements for the purchase of a new ship to replace the lost cruiser Sydney could not be made at present. Pending the purchase of a new ship, the money collected by the H.M.A.S. Sydney Fund would be held in trust and afpplied exclusively as part of the cost of the new Sydney.
