"I certainly am very proud of what the people of New Zealand are doing in connection with the war effort," stated the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) today, when accepting a Bren gun carrier, the gift of residents of the Fahiatua district.
"We are getting stronger every day," he continued, "but we have still got a big job ahead of us in Oefending this country. We are even going to go further than that. We are not only going to defend this country, but are also going to take back from our enemies all they have taken from us."
and all persons employed in or from buildings in the designated areas of the city, provided that: Persons who are in possession of the E.P.S. exemption chit,Members of the Armed Forces, including the Home Guard, All females who are not volunteers, Persons exempted by competent authority or on the grounds of physical incapacity, Those who by reason of their place of residence are obviously unable to come i into Wellington to watch, and, : Those persons who are not members of the E.P.S. because of age limitations are exempt. Notwithstanding those exemptions, any person may volunteer for firewatching service, and upon doing so should enrol in the E.P.S. as a voluntary member, so receiving the protection of the compensatory clauses of the Act.
