WAR COUNCIL

MORE RECOMMENDATIONS

The latest recommendations made by the War Council to the War Cabinet were referred to last night by the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser).

"Recommendations," said Mr. Fraser, "have been submitted by the council to War Cabinet on the steps necessary to meet the man-power requirements of the Armed Forces, the improvement of communications to meet tactical needs, on service by aliens, Daylight Saving, and the measures to be taken to control the entry of workers into non-essential industries. Proposals have been made that certain important industries should be added to the schedule of essential industries."

' The council met yesterday and considered reports submitted by the Defence and Military Affairs Committee and the Primary and Secondary Industries Committee, both of which had met earlier in the week; Mr. Fraser said that the council was informed of the discussions which have been proceeding regarding the formation of a Pacific War Council in Washington, - and the machinery which is being developed for the higher direction of the war in all theatres. A full statement was given to the council showing the munitions and supplies which have been received, the advances that have been made in the defence preparations in this country, and the position of our forces in various theatres overseas.

A high tribute was paid by Mr. Fraser to the valuable service being given by members of the council.
