INVADERS LOSE MANY PLANES

LONDON, February 25. From Burma comes news of big Allied air victories, and the air defences of Burma have just had their most successful day of the war and have given some hard knocks to the enemy.

An R.A.F. communique says that at least 29 Japanese planes were destroyed in air fights, and that another seven were probably shot down. Two Japanese vessels have been sunk by our planes in the river near Moulmein. Another report says that 30 enemy planes were destroyed. 4 One battle took place early this afternoon when a formation of enemy fighters escorting' bombers-was .set upon by fighters of the R.A.F. and the American Volunteer Group. A considerable number of Japanese aircraft were destroyedA wing- commander, describing the attack on the boats in the river, said that direct hits were scored on both vessels, and that when last seen they were enveloped in a smoke screen. When the capital was raided this morning ,by'24.enemy planes two of them were shot down and two more probably destroyed. We suffered no losses: ,

An aerodrome north of Rangoon was raided, but only slight damage was done.
