BURMA DRIVE GOES ON
LONDON, February 25,
The latest official news from Rangoon is that our forces are reorganising after heavy fighting.
A curfew has been ordered in Rangoon from tonight and a military commandant has been appointed for the city as a protection against looting.
This follows the evacuation of civilians from the Burmese capita! and the continued Japanese drive against the British positions near the Sittang River. A correspondent says that the Japanese are now able to operate armoured forces, and that the British line now lies about 60 miles north-east of Rangoon.
Some 450 miles to the north-west of Rangoon there is news of the evacuation of certain areas in the Chittagong district in Bengal. Madras radio said the evacuation was being carried out for the benefit of the people and was purely a precautionary measure.
