RECRUITS FOR W.W.S.A.
SATISFACTORY RESPONSE
Recruits for the various branches of the Women's War Service Auxiliary are coming in satisfactorily, but the headquarters of the organisation arc hopeful that the response to the appeal for recruits will be even greater than it is at the moment. Qualified Avomen and girls are wanted for service in canteens, kitchens, and messes, and those used to shorthand and typing and general clerical duties are also needed. The response from the latter sections has not been so good as from others. Particularly is this so in the case of transport drivers. The Army has notified the W.W.S.A. headquarters that it requires girls for these tasks. Recently the Army asked for some signallers, and these will be supplied from the specially-trained group.
Quite a number of girls have registered for work on farms, 'but up to the present there has been a very limited inquiry from farmers for help. Today three girls were sent out to assist on dairy farms, and several others have already been placed on sheep farms. "The help is here if the farmers will avail themselves of it," stated an official. "The girls are all of a splendid type, and very willing."
